Do you believe in psychic powers? Have you ever felt the presence of a
loved one who has passed on, or had a dream that came true? Have you
ever visited a psychic who knew things about you that no one else
knows? Do you think that you might be psychic?
Many noted psychics claim that we are all born psychic—although a few
are exceptionally gifted, just like musical talent. But for most of us,
developing psychic ability is similar to learning to play an
instrument—it takes focus, patience, and practice.
Some people believe that psychic ability, or psi, as it is often
called, has weakened in the human species as we developed complex
spoken languages to express our thoughts to one another. Others believe
that we as a species are actually becoming more evolved, and point to
the emergence of a new generation of children often called
Indigo children.
Those who believe in this phenomenon note that many children born in
the eighties and nineties are extremely intelligent—and often extremely
psychic.
Psychic ability manifests in a multitude of ways, whether you are an
"Indigo" or not. Some people have precognitive dreams, seeing events
unfold in their dreams before they happen in real life. Others have
dreams about a crime or an accident that has already occurred but
remains unsolved. Gifted mediums can even communicate with the spirits
of those on the other side. You may not have had any experiences like
these, but chances are you just get a feeling every now and then—call
it a hunch, or your intuition, or whatever you like—that often makes
sense only in retrospect.
Knowing who's calling before you answer the phone, or giving the car
ahead some extra space just seconds before the driver suddenly slams on
the brakes—from the mundane to the dramatic and even life-saving, we
all occasionally experience these seemingly psychic communications. Is
it coming from our own unconscious? Our guardian angel? Our spirit
guide? An ancestor? No one can say for certain why or how these things
happen, or if they indeed do happen, since often the only person
receiving the information is you. And that's what paranormal phenomena
are all about—real experiences and events that continue to happen to
people all over the world, generation after generation—yet the results
cannot be reproduced in a controlled scientific experiment. So, "proof"
of psychic powers continues to elude us. It's as if the proof of these
phenomena is as subjective as the forms through which it manifests.
I am not suggesting that we should believe anything that is not scientifically proven.
To complicate matters, many psychics claim to receive their information
in symbols, pictures, and other abstract means that seem to be somewhat
unique to each person. Perhaps one day we will be able to definitively
prove that things like ESP exist. But until then, why not prove it to
yourself? A great place start is
You Are Psychic
by Debra Lynn Katz. She writes, "every person is a natural born
clairvoyant, and with training, practice, and faith, anyone can learn
to perform detailed and accurate readings." It's her belief, based on
years of teaching workshops and classes, that anyone who can visualize
a simple shape or color can develop clairvoyance--the ability to see
through extrasensory means. It's a bit like dreaming while awake. Along
with tips and techniques for developing clairvoyance, she also shares
stories from her own readings for clients.
Have you ever had a psychic experience where you "saw" something in a dream or vision that came true? I'd love to hear from you!
We're giving away five copies of
You Are Psychic in our Psychic Stories contest. Send your story of a real-life psychic premonition, dream, hunch, or whatever it was, to
paranormalupdate@llewellyn.com.
Everyone who submits a story will be automatically entered to win.
We'll randomly select five winners from the entries, and (with the
author's permission, of course) I'll share some of the best stories
with you in future updates. If you're shy about letting people know
what you've "seen," don't worry—we can always simply use your initials.
I look forward to reading your stories!
