Each year I always check out the movement of the planets around the beginning of January to get a feel for the coming year. The chart for the first of the year always puts me in mind of possible New Year’s resolutions, and I either make some or not, based on what I see. 2007 begins with Saturn and the Moon on the top half of the chart and all the rest of the planets and the Sun on the bottom. Right away I get a feeling of significant challenges. The Moon sign changes every month, and we are used to the rhythm of the lunar cycle. Saturn changes signs this year, an event that occurs only every two and a half years. Somehow slower moving planets tend to surprise us more when they change signs because we have become used to a particular structure in our lives. Saturn in Leo has felt reliable to us. We expected stability, even in the midst of inflammatory situations. We tended to trust diplomacy, even when we saw that it didn’t bring peace to the world. When Saturn enters Virgo, though, in September of 2007, a mental shift toward deeper analysis will occur. In general, people will take a closer look at their own lives and at the national and international situations. They will demand an accounting, and it may not be a pretty sight. There will be a desire to place blame on someone for all things that have gone wrong. Saturn in Virgo brings a more serious tone of investigation, following a period of faith in our leaders. The investigation can produce a lot of beneficial changes, once we get past the initial finger pointing that seems to have started early — I see it as I am writing this article in the fall of 2006! Could you use a daily guide to the planets that shows how to get from January 1 to September and beyond? Llewellyn’s 2007Astrological Calendar and 2007 Daily Plantary Guide give you daily astrological information to help you plot a course. With these tools you can track the phases of the Moon, see which planets are in the forefront and get regular tips about each opportunity in your life. I always find plenty of information about the coming year in the Sun Sign Book and Moon Sign Book. The timely articles are filled with suggestions for every part of your life, from fashion to gardening, from remodeling to career potential. The Sun Sign Book even includes an article about choosing holiday locations and activities to please every member of your family, and the Moon Sign Book provides weather forecasting to ensure sunny skies or snow to suit your preference. Eclipses in 2007 Astrologers look to eclipses for indications of the political “weather” around the world. In her book Eclipses, Celeste Teal includes predictions for the solar and lunar eclipses up to the year 2012. A few of her forecasts for the March 2007 solar eclipse include: “Stock and investment losses, problems in government. Peace and order disturbed but devotional religious movements grow. Discontent among civil servants. Earthquakes.” She sees an emphasis in Iran, the Vatican and the White House. For the eclipse on September 11, 2007, Teal predicts: “Unrest and unusual emergencies. Focus on public health and welfare in the U.S. Hazardous conditions in shipping and travel. Potential strikes or rioting.” The emphasis is on Canada, Iran, North Korea, Mexico, and the Twin Towers site. Cosmic Trends Philip Brown’s book, Cosmic Trends, gives you the low down on the impact of the planets on everything from the fashion industry to wireless technology and beyond. He helps to put all your questions about the world into perspective by examining the positions of the outer planets — the big guns beyond Jupiter and Saturn — that set the tone for the major cycles in economic, social and spiritual development. What Goes Around, Comes Around “When Pluto was in Capricorn during the 1700s, British authority in America formed a network of control, governing everything from colonial expansion to trade. In today’s world, a television network is created by local stations linked to form a single broadcast entity. When Pluto goes into Capricorn, a number of corporate, government and international networks will wield considerable power.” Cosmic Trends draws this parallel between Benjamin Franklin’s era and today’s power moguls, and he reveals myriad other connections that will capture your interest. One of the coolest things in the book is Philip’s exercise to help develop your intuitive awareness. You will learn how to use your own inner senses to make connections between the planets and world events. The world will begin to make more sense to you, and you will find yourself more relaxed, and at the same time fascinated by the cycles at work around you. Is Venus in Your Future? Whether you are just dabbling in astrology or pursuing it as a serious student, Venus is a book you will want to add to your collection. Let Venus be your guide to romance by reading Anne Massey’s enticing account of this sister planet so like our own, and her astrological significance. You’ll read about the intriguing geometry of Venus, and also learn about her phases, similar to the familiar phases of the Moon, but totally different in their impact on your life. Diane Stone said that Anne “fills a black hole in the astrological literature that has generally overlooked the Lady of Love.” That doesn’t make sense! More than one astrology student has given up when it came to understanding aspects in the chart. But don’t despair! With the words in the above heading, Robin Antepara’s Aspects begins your adventure into the complex, dynamic relationships among the planets and challenges conventional lore about aspects. Using vivid examples of famous people from history and modern times, Robin brings the aspects to life in a whole new way that cuts through the obscurity of this essential factor in astrology. She proves that aspects do, indeed, make sense! Robin includes interpretations for every planetary combination to assist the budding astrologer. If you are a more advanced student, expect to find lively discussions of real people and how they handled their very real planetary aspects. This book takes a giant step from simple Sun sign astrology and into a whole new dimension of astrological analysis.
