New Worlds has been around for a long time.
It was born as Gnostica News back in the late 1960’s — first as a tabloid and then in magazine format. As Gnostica it was the pioneering New Age publication reaching out to bring new awareness and understanding of the major subject areas of Astrology, Divination, Magick, the Paranormal, Tantra, Tarot, Witchcraft/Wicca and Yoga.
On the whole, we did a good job, but when the economy slipped in the 1970s we converted back to tabloid format and called it New Times. Then, as we progressed forward we birthed New Worlds as expressing more of what Llewellyn is about. We don’t see the New Age as just a new look for “the Ancient Wisd om” but as a new era of “Body, Mind & Spirit,” integrating modern knowledge and experience with traditional practices and resources. New Worlds has carried on this tradition in print form while the “new world” around us is moving more and more to the World Wide Web. With this issue of New Worlds we are further integrating our print catalog with our online catalogs and services including the Llewellyn Journal and the Llewellyn Encyclopedia, which you can find on our website, www.llewellyn.com. We want you to see print and online as a single whole and comprehensive presentation of our service to you. The first thing you may have noticed about New Worlds is that we have switched to a more environmentally-responsible paper, which itself necessitates a change in the way we use color and the fine detailed illustrations possible with the previous, less-environmentally-friendly, coated paper stock. The second thing you will notice that we are increasing the number of books cataloged in each issue. We are making catalog descriptions, arranged by subject, more concise and specific in showing how each title serves unique functions for the user. Our goal is to help you find books that serve your own unique needs and provide those books to you. In addition you will also find short essays relating to the subjects and what is actually happening in these subject areas. We have also reduced the total number of pages in each issue simply by removing the complete product listing and substituting a plain “fill in the spaces” single-page form which can either be mailed or serve as your summary for making a phone or online order. Reducing pages is another environmentally friendly act. If you haven’t looked online at the Llewellyn Journal (www.llewellynjournal.com) in a while, stop by for a visit! There you’ll find hundreds of original articles that you can read for free, and more are being added every week. These articles are intended to help you understand and apply the techniques developed in our books to fit your own unique needs. If you’re still looking for more information on a topic, check out our Llewellyn Encyclopedia (www.llewellynencyclopedia.com), an ongoing project with new entries and constant revisions. The Encyclopedia includes extensive and distinctive entries on Body, Mind, Spirit categories ranging from Abracadabra to Yoga and Zooform Phenomena. Major categories are broken into sub-divisions showing applications of major “technologies” to specific user benefits. Or try our online catalog search — Just enter a keyword and hit “Go!” to find related products, articles and encyclopedia entries. In addition, you will want to check out www.llewellyn.com/free, where we provide several free services, including a Web Tarot Reading, Spooky Stories written by readers, a Moon Phase Tracker, a Spell-a-Day program, the Magical Personality quiz, and a Love Test for relationship compatibility. We will be adding a few more service features in the near future so please look for them. On the Llewellyn website you will also find a link to Llewellyn Español (www.llewellynespanol.com), our Spanish language website, as well as a link to our astrological services described in detail to provide astrological applications for your every interest and need. Our new releases are featured along with special sales and bargain items. You will also find the complete resource for Lo Scarabeo Tarot and Oracle decks and kits. Would you like to know about authors visiting your area or local bookshop? Just click on the authors icon at the top of our website for a complete national schedule. If you’re interested in a particular topic, we can deliver information to you with our online newsletters. You’ll find the “subscribe” link on the left hand column of the home page that will take you to a list of newsletters by category. Coming in mid 2007 we will be completely up-dating our website as well as improving each of the featured services. And don’t forget: a good selection of Llewellyn books are always available at your local bookstore (a place for like-minded people to meet, talk with authors and receive expert advice.) We are excited by these changes and added services, and hope you are too. — Carl Llewellyn Weschcke, President & Publisher |
