Event:  Godless Savage - Review

The Bad: This book felt very much like the textbook to a class I wasn’t taking. There’s no such thing as a quick five minute exercise in the journaling section; everything is at least a page worth of writing and justifying. Which is great, but wasn’t what I came into this book looking for.

Example: the Iconic Characters on Stage and in Film want to Know journaling exercise wants you to create 5-card readings for 10 well-known characters (ranging from Superman to Dr. Frankenstein) mid-story. It’s a great exercise if you have the time for it, but that could easily take a half an hour per character.

Meanwhile, the theater games section requires more people on hand, and would be amazing in a class setting where the teacher had the book and others in the group worked through it. But I am individual reviewer sitting at home with a review copy

The Good: That all said, the exercises are a really good deep dive into the cards. I am planning to sit down and perform the free-writing exercise with the Hierophant and the Lovers at some point to ‘chew on’ some of what the last book gave me to think about them.

The inclusion of the tarot cards meaning section is useful to those who want to use the theater games with a group where not everyone knows what the cards stand for, and I feel they made the right decision in not including inverted meanings as this is not necessarily a book for tarot readers.

The Bottom Line: Would I recommend this book? Not to most of my tarot reading friends, nor to a beginner, I’m afraid. This book really does seem best suited to a classroom setting, in my mind.
