The Miracle of Music

Music is an amazing thing. It brings out our joy, can help us touch buried sorrow, expresses our emotions when there are no words, and pulses through our bodies in a rhythm we sometimes simply can’t deny. It is positively infectious, healing, and uplifting in so many wonderful ways.

All of this was in the forefront of my mind as I watched a video that my previous healing instructor sent to me today. There are so many stories and so much news that we are bombarded with day in and day out. An overwhelming amount of this media that we give attention to is negative and brings out our fear. On the opposite end of the spectrum, this made me so joyful! I had to share those good vibes with you…

I am a collector of quotes and feed off the wisdom of others and ate this up. In response to the question, “What does music do to do?” I could not have offered a more eloquent and heart-felt response than this:

It gives me the feeling of love…romance. I figure right now the world needs to come into music…singing…you’ve got beautiful music here. Beautiful…lovely. I feel the band of love, of dreams.

He goes on to speak of the divine experience that music sometimes brings to us and how it can seemingly transform us into a better version of ourselves, so much so that we feel holy because of it. In the end, to him this is the purpose of music.

The fact that music alone allowed for this reflection on itself is baffling and wonderful. I can most definitly identify with what is being said. How about you? Does music help you in certain ways or make you come alive? Are there other ways you use sound to heal? Discover more information on healing through sound and music here!

Lovely article! I have always been amazed and delighted at music’s ability to transport me to other places, within myself and outside myself. The “music” that nature provides also has tremendous healing qualities — I’m thinking especially of bubbling, burbling streams and bird songs.

Fantastic article Angela. We too have been moved by this clip and have taken on the Music & Memory program at Walker Methodist. We are currently trying to get new iPods into the hands of all of our residents so we can make this miracle happen for all who need it. LOVE your title too 😉 Great minds think alike!
