It is with deep sorrow that we share the news of the passing of DJ Conway. DJ crossed over last week after a brief illness.
DJ authored more than 35 books and helped create several tarot decks—the majority with Llewellyn. She wrote on Paganism, Wicca, Druidry, Shamanism, and even some fiction. Most of her earliest books remain in print to this day (including her first book, Celtic Magic). Carl Llewellyn Weschcke was proud to have published her books and spoke of her fondly because she was an important voice in the community. Like Carl, DJ spent her time reading, researching, and writing. She is respected for her knowledge and as a teacher.
DJ’s work was also innovative and creative. Her popular Dancing with Dragons, Mystical Dragon Magick, and the Celtic Dragon Tarot (with Sirona Knight and Lisa Hunt) led us to affectionately call her the “Dragon Lady” around the office. DJ’s bio states that she studied the occult for over 35 years. In actuality, her experience went much deeper. In her latest book, Magical Folkhealing, she shares magical formulary that she learned from her grandmother. (As a young girl she copied down her grandmother’s recipes and spells to treat a host of ailments. She wrote them by hand in a flower-covered journal that she disguised by turning the book upside down and backwards.)
DJ had completed one last book for Llewellyn, Dragon Magick, that will be released in August of this year.

Hail My Lady and Farewell, May your dragons wing you to the Summer Country. Your Celtic Magic book set me on my path over 20 years ago. You will be greatly missed, but I know you will watch over us.
This is shocking news to me. Her book Dancing With Dragons is my main I use in my practice. To hear that this beautiful soul is gone saddens me deeply. Her light will forever be present in my life as it was her book that started me down my Wiccan path.
ive loved her books since ive read them, spoke to her on occasion, I hope to see her on the shores of irlan, when I step up on it far green shores and walk into to anwwyn and see my people and travel into the far city

Dj Conway books were an inspirational and helpful to our Pagan and Wiccan community. I have been in the craft for over 30 years and still use her Celtic Magic book.May she peace and love with the Mother Goddess in the Summerland. Blessed be
The magickal world has suffered a terrible loss, but I have no doubt that DJ Conway will continue to teach us from beyond the Veil, should we honor her memory. Celtic Magic was the 2nd book I ever purchased when I became a witch, and it still remains on my shelf of go-to books, despite my library growing to about 75 books (over 100 when I include Kindle). You honored her well, Anna, with your beautiful words!

Sorry to hear of D.J. Conway’s passing. I found out by accident that she had lived in Hood River, Oregon, my childhood home. I can promise you there WERE dragons there. I met them when I was a child. May her journey over the Rainbow Bridge have been accompanied by a grand parade of dragonfolk.

I cant say I am sorry to see her go, She had a attitude about her I simply did not like and was contradictive, For example in her book dancing with dragons she went on and on and on about never using magic on someone with out their permission, Then she turn right around and made a comment about any one harming children and she would not hesitate to use magic on them, Now my question is did she get their permission…
Mehten that is a very sad sentiment. I am currently reading my first of her gift “ By Oak , Ash Thorn” . So taken am I that I wished to know more of the author only to find news of her passing and horrified by such a comment by another. Peace to you for you need blessings.

I only just heard of her passing. I was drawn to do a google search on her now and just read of her passing. I started out in mysticism by reading her book, Celtic Magic. She was indeed a talented soul. I am grateful for her knowledge and wisdom and skill in the mystic arts. May the Great Mother bless and keep her eternal soul.

I’m not really familiar with much of her work.
I rather enjoy the Celtic Dragon Tarot and find her unorthodox use of the elements and especially her views on masculine and feminine characteristic, negative and positive in the tarot guide very interesting. She seems to get many of the characteristics confused or reversed. I’m curious about her tendencies for these unnatural inversions.
I’m only mentioning these things because after almost 30 years practicing the Craft I’ve never seen an actual occultist do something like this.

I was only twelve when I read her Celtic Magic Book and Flying without a Broom Book. I used these books for years, now I’m in my 30s and they are still on my shelf. Ready for my daughter to read. Blessed be DJ May the Goddess guide you.
I’ve just learned of DJ’s passing. and my heart is heavy with grief at the loss of such a wonderful lady. Her writing style made me feel like she was beside me as she wrote of my beloved Celtic traditions. Thank you for publishing DJ’s work. I hope to get more of her books to study and learn from her.
Years ago, I emailed her to express my thanks for her books. I will never forget how wonderfully kind she was to me.
Celtic Magic was my first introduction to her work. Norse Magic and Oak, Ash, and Thorn followed. I’m grateful for the knowledge she shared and presented in such a way that was informative, interesting, and an exciting journey..

Deanna conway was my mother. She was the most abusive, vindictive, man hater that spent her life persicuting her own son because of her hatred for men.i have documented proof of her abuse from the time I was born until the day she died. She spent most of her time hating people in her life to the point of trying to hurt them and their families by casting evil spells meant to hurt them. The beatings from birth screamed at and demeaned for being male. Report cards from grade school documenting her physical and mental abuse led to me being permanently disabled from PTSD due only from her abuse to me. At Storm, Hey I only said the simple truth nothing more, when someone turns around and does a major contradiction like that then that is naturally going to make them look bad and on and on and on she went about asking for permission through the whole book if it were not for those two things the book would have been ok But anytime you have a author trying to ram their beliefs of right and wrong down your throat such harm none do as thy will or the 3 fold law then people like that are sooner or latter going to get back lass, People buy these books to make changes in their lives not to be dictated and told what to do…

and rights to her legacy i cannot speak into what you say as that simply isnt true easy to speak ill of the dead maybe it gives you some kind of closure that you know she was attacked by many even her family i knew her days before her death she was frail and weak as her life was ending she spoke of those who she couldent help .now im not saying shes perfect and im sure your wanting to spew hate as this challenges your mental stances
