Review of The Blue Angel Oracle

Summary

The Blue Angel Oracle blends science and spirituality, angels and fantasy. The deck of 45 cards presents a diverse and complex world, a fitting tool for exploring the depths of our own truths and the twists and turns of our lives. The text provides concise illumination to light your way as you search for meaning and five spreads to help reveal that meaning.

In-Depth Review

The Blue Angel Oracle is so named because the Archangel Michael is associated with blue light and Michael is Toni Carmine Salerno’s main spiritual inspiration, although judging from this deck, it is not his only one. Toni is tapped into and familiar with many angels and higher level beings. Consequently, his vision is broad and complex and not one that most people recognize. Or perhaps you would. For me, this deck was a heady trip with interesting connections between science and spirituality, between biblical angels and world mythology. The idea that “all is one” is popular and Toni brings that concept to life in this deck.

This is truly a deck for the open minded, for those who are not bound by what some would call rational structures. Look for order in this deck and you will be disappointed. There is no unifying mythology, no does Toni try to pretend there is. There is simply truth and truth has many faces. Even the art pays tribute to the wide variety of ways to depict the truth. Some of the art is incredibly potent in its raw, primal expressions (we assume this is Toni’s art, although we are not told). Some of the art is elegant and abstract, bringing to mind science and the Mandelbrot set (we assume these are Walter’s, although, again, we are not told this). Some cards have quotes, some have phrases, some have affirmations. Some of the cards are vertical. Some are horizontal. Consistency is the hobgoblin of small minds and this deck is not for small minds. This lack of rhyme or reason could be seen as a hot mess of a deck, but it actually is a case of letting the medium reflect the message. A wide range of truth, a wide variety of ways that truth can be expressed or experienced. The complex dance that is life.

The cards have names and key words on them but no numbers, nor are they listed in alphabetical order in the guidebook. Be prepared to search for meaning. Again, fitting…the method is the message.

Perhaps it is best to let the text speak for itself. Here are a few examples of the card interpretations:

41. Pendragon Sword
This consecrated sword represents balance, power, and wisdom. Qualities bestowed only to those who have earned them. This is a coming of age for you.

Much can be accomplished now with relative ease provided you remain balanced and grounded. You are bestowed the power of the Dragon, Ruler, King, Magician. This is a great honor and privilege but a great responsibility as well. You can hold this power indefinitely provided you honor it, respect it, and use it wisely.

Every atom belonging to me as good belongs to you. Walt Whitman

42. Deva Magic
Minute particles called nanoparticles exist in strange invisible realms. We cannot see them because they are incredibly small. And yet these invisible particles hold immense power that influences and shapes our world. There is a visible reality and an invisible one, yet both are equally real. Within the strange world of nanoparticles there are worlds within flower cups, cities in buds, universes within dewdrops. This card is asking you to look again. Something you’ve discounted or consider to be irrelevant may hold great potential and power.

Side by side, we have myth and science, which Toni deftly juggles, inviting us to shuffle the cards and see what we discover for ourselves.
