Term: Chayyim Vital

DEFINITION:
Kabbalist (Turkish 16th–17th Century). A leading disciple of Isaac Luria, Vital experienced many fantastic visions and personal revelations. He also believed he had undergone multiple incarnations and, for example, had the soul of R[abbi] Akiba.
