The Llewellyn Encyclopedia

Term: Wishing Well

DEFINITIONS

Wishing Well: A wishing well is a pond or well that people throw coins or stones into, believing that any wish they make will be granted. This is one of the most ancient of all superstitions. On the night of a full moon, young girls can toss a coin into a wishing well and see an image of their future husbands in the water of the well.
