The Llewellyn Encyclopedia

Term: Higher Self

DEFINITIONS

Higher Self: The part of ourselves that exists in harmony with the Universe; the divine self.
source: The Thoth Companion, by Michael Osiris Snuffin

Higher Self:

The third aspect of personal consciousness, also known as the Super-Conscious Mind. As the Middle Self, or Conscious Mind, takes conscious control of the Lower Self, or Sub-Conscious Mind, the Higher Self becomes more directly involved in functioning of the Personal Consciousness.

Even though the Higher Self is also known as the Holy Guardian Angel, there is value in using a more easily comprehended psychological term. Words are words and there are often many names for the same thing. But each gives a particular shape or color or tone to the thing named to expand our understanding comprehension when we are relating to larger concepts.

Qabalistically, it is the Super-Conscious Mind in Tiphareth that mediates between the Divine Self and the Lower Personality.

Carl Llewellyn Weschcke

Higher Self:

According to Donald Tyson, that which you really are, as opposed to what you think you are. The truest identity of the individual stripped of all transitory veils.

A central teaching within Evolutionary Astrology is that the Soul contains within it two antithetical, yet co-equal, desires: one to return to source, and one to separate away. Evolution occurs as the Soul progressively purges and exhausts separating desires from... read this article
