Occult: Hidden. Usually used in the sense of hidden or secret information that gives the person who discovers or learns the information some sort of power. Many people fear those who have knowledge that they do not, and as a result denounce people who study or practice anything they think is occultic. Some people, frequently younger ones, seek occult wisdom and powers in order to have control over others.
