Term: Joan of Arc
Joan of Arc: (1412(?)–1431) As a result of hearing voices, she led the French army to several victories in the Hundred Years’ War, an almost unthinkable action for a woman of the time. She was captured by the Burgundians and sold to the English, who had her tried in an ecclesiastical court on charges of heresy. Although she was accused of Witchraft, for legal reasons she could not be charged with that offense. Behind the scenes there were a lot of politics going on, eventually leading to her death by being burned alive. Later the conviction was overturned and she was canonized, becoming a patron saint of France.
