The “self”—who you are—built up during a single incarnation. The personality is based upon heredity, past lives, and the environment. The persona, or outward expression of the personality, is not the personality per se, but a part of the personality. In the same way, the personality is contains a part of the inner self or “soul.” The soul is believed to survive from life to life during the process of reincarnation. The personality does not survive, although small aspects of it that are important to one’s spiritual evolution may remain.
