There are differing descriptions, ranging from a simple horse or goat with a single horn (sometimes spiraling) from its forehead, to a creature with the head and body of a horse, the tail of a lion, the hind legs of a wild stag, and a thin horn tapering to a point that grew from its forehead. It was believed that only a virgin woman could ride it, and the single horn has obvious archetypal male meanings.
