My dad was an avid reader of FATE magazine from issue number 1. My mom says when he got a new issue, he would read it from cover to cover in one sitting.
Dad painlessly passed away during the night. Mom found him sitting slightly slumped over at his desk, with his new issue of FATE on the desk top, open at the end of the magazine. That night I felt Dadís presence during my falling-asleep meditation.
My brother had a dream about Dad. He was walking across the master bedroom, in a house that we had lived in many years ago, looking much like he did before he died. My brother was taken aback with what he saw, and said to him, ďHow can this be, youíre dead! Youíre the same in death, as you were in life.Ē
ďWhat did you expect?Ē Dad replied.
Mom told me about my brotherís dream, and I related my experience. She felt a little left out because she hadnít been contacted. Be careful what you wish for!
Shortly after this conversation, Mom was contacted. She has a special time each day to rest. She went into the bedroom to read, and for some reason, she felt she should go look at the plants and veteranís flag that had been at my dadís funeral. After looking at them and thinking about Dad, she started to go back to the bedroom and noticed that the hall light was on. It was the middle of the day and very bright, so she knew that she hadnít turned the light on.
When she walked into the bedroom, there on the corner of the desk-where the FATE magazine was when Dad died-was an old issue of FATE which Mom swears wasnít there shortly before. She didnít put it there, and she was the only one in the house. This frightened her, since she ďdoesnít go in for that sort of thing.Ē Dad, of course, would have been delighted to have had such an experience.
