Reader Question:For quite some time now I have been trying to separate my astral body by using the following method: I lie flat on my back, breath deeply and slowly, and enter a state of deep relaxation, as I learned to do through autogenic training. Then I try to separate my astral body from my physical body until it floats roughly a foot and a half above me. But I still have not had any luck, although I have been practicing several times a day for months. I read that one should shift his or her awareness to the astral body to be able to function in it. But how exactly can that work if I am not even sure whether I am out of my body or not? What should I do? Can you help? Author's ...
The out-of-body experience is at the core of most religious, shamanic, and magical practices. Many of the techniques for inducing the"OBE" have long been kept secret by priests and magicians for political and personal power. The ability to project personal consciousness to places and dimensions beyond the physical body has provided access to knowledge and information that are, themselves, god-like. Many of the techniques for astral projection have lacked personal control, or else involved discipline—hypnosis, fasting, sensory deprivation, difficult postures, drugs, and Tantra. Others have involved guided meditation and prayer, or the environment of ceremony and dramatic ritual ...

The energy body contains several interdependent energy circuits. The primary energy circuit (containing the major chakras) is the higher energy circuit responsible for out-of-body projection. But ...
Many books that give a general introduction to magick have a section on astral projection. They focus on its difficulty, how important it is, how it is a major part of magickal work, and so on. But after reading these books, I'm left with a feeling like the late Clara Peller (who played a senior citizen in a now-iconic commercial from the mid-1980s) when she found nothing of substance in her sandwich, shouting, "Where's the beef?" Similarly, some books, after discussing the value of astral projection (without saying why it's valuable), give instructions on such things as journeying to a friend's home to determine which page of a book they are reading or visiting a girlfriend or boyfriend ...
