Tarot Pathways with Lisa Finander
Tarot Pathways Is Born

Lisa Finander Happy Holidays Everyone,

Last time I asked you to vote for a name for our online community. Your emails began pouring in twenty minutes after the September issue was sent. It was truly amazing and a lot of fun for us to see your messages popping up on our screens. It was our largest and fastest response to date. Now that all the votes have been tallied, we have a name for our online community: Tarot Pathways! Congratulations go to Joanne Nadj from Australia for coming up with the winning name. She wins a copy of our Revelations Tarot.

Since I know you're a chatty bunch, I'm going to keep asking you questions. This time I'm going to ask about keeping tarot journals.

Many of our tarot books encourage readers to start their own tarot journal. For the beginner, keeping a tarot diary is a great way to stimulate personal correspondences with each card. There are many ways to do this. You can pick a different card at random each day and record the day's events along with the card noting any connections between your experiences and the meaning of the card. For a more methodical approach, you can choose a daily card starting with the Fool and working your way through all 78 cards in order. If you are more of a night owl, you can choose a card at the end of the day and reflect back on the day's events.

In Corrine Kenner's book, Tarot Journaling, she uses the Celtic Cross Spread as the framework for creating a personal tarot journal and for writing your own story as you move through the individual card placements.

Over the next couple of months, I would love to hear from those of you that use tarot journals. If you've never used one before, why not give it a try?

I specifically want to know:
  • How many of you use tarot journals?
  • How have they benefited your tarot knowledge?
  • What do they look like?
  • How have you customized your journal to work with your tarot cards?
  • What would your perfect journal look like?

During the busy holiday season, take this opportunity to get out your journals and spend some time giving back to yourselves by clarifying what is really important to you and your family and friends. You can start now by taking time to enjoy an affirmation created to help release stress. This is just a small excerpt from the complete ritual found in Janina RenČe's Tarot Spells.

I am relaxed and serene.
I am at peace with myself
I forgive all errors.
I release all guilt and sorrow
To flow away from me
Like leaves carried away by a stream.
I am secure.
I am nourished by the living universe.
I give myself over to Higher Powers
and suspend my cares
outside of time,
outside of space.
All experience is unfolding as it should.
Everything falls into order,
and in the fullness of time,
all is taken care of.
Everything works for my highest good,
and everything works out for me.

Gift Ideas for Every Sun Sign
by Maria Shaw

Is there a friend or family member on your gift list that's hard to buy for? Perhaps you know someone who has everything. Running from store to store trying to find the perfect gift can really put a damper on this festive season. The old stand-bys like cash and gift certificates are OK but impersonal. Have you ever considered using astrology to find the perfect gift? Each member of the zodiac has specific personality traits, likes, and dislikes. If you know what these are, you can find the perfect gift for anyone ... including the person who has everything!

Here are a few ideas:

Aries - Rams will appreciate anything that is personalized. Think about a necklace with their initials on it or an ID bracelet. Being competitive people, many Aries enjoy sports - so tickets to see their favorite BB team play is another thought. Some Aries are adventurous types. Buy things that appeal to their daredevil side; flying lessons or a hot air balloon ride. Also consider video games, action movies, golf clubs, board games, and time-saving gadgets. Anything that helps an Aries save time will be appreciated as they are always on the run.

An excerpt from Tarot Journaling
by Corrine Kenner

When you decide to keep a tarot journal, the type of journal you choose can be as important as the significator you select for a reading. Your journal should correspond to your personal description.

In other words, your journal should reflect your personality. Because it will serve as a repository for your thoughts and feelings, and it will embody your wants, needs, and desires. If you are an executive, you might want a classic leather bound journal. If you are an artist, you might need a sketchbook to hold all of your creative ideas.

Your journal should also suit your lifestyle, and it should be constructed in a way that will be physically comfortable for you to use.

The type of tarot journal you choose will help you focus your views, collect your thoughts, and clarify your emotions. It will help you relive your past, explore your present, and plan for your future. It will help you document your work with the cards and chart your growth. Ultimately, the type of tarot journal you choose will help you define yourself.
