Many people think that magic is complex and difficult. Leave it to Raymond Buckland to reveal that magic can be as easy as lighting some candles and performing a simple ritual. You can discover the truth of how easy magic really is in his Practical Candleburning Rituals.
First, you will learn how to prepare: A quiet room. A small table or even a box for an altar. Some nice incense. Candles of the appropriate color ... any type will do. You "dress" them by rubbing them with oil according to the directions. And that's it. You don't need a special diet or elaborate robes. Just candles, quiet, space, and this book as a guide.
And what a guide it is! There are rituals for just about every need you might have. In many instances, two forms of the ritual are given. One is a Christianized version, the other reflects the early pre-Christian nature worship — the Old Religion as it is known.
Pick a purpose for a magical ritual and chances are good you will find a candleburning ritual for it here. Do you want to consecrate an amulet or talisman? See page 167. Do you want to overcome a bad habit? See page 21. Do you need help when doing divination? How about causing dreams? Or perhaps you want to regain or retain health. You'll find rituals for all of these here ... and many more.
Let's say you want to obtain money. You set up your altar with candles as illustrated. You light your two general altar candles and then some incense. Meditate on the purpose of the ritual and clear your mind.
Light a candle that represents the petitioner (it could be you, of course) and identify it with that person. Then light a gold candle next to it. Think hard on attraction and say that it is attracting money to the petitioner.
Next, light five green candles, think hard on money. As you light them, say that the candles represent the money which is desired. It is as much as the petitioner needs "no more, and no less."
Then light a red candle, thinking of the complete wish fulfilled. This is followed by a brief acknowledgement that "all should be earned or not received at all ... for it is said the Gods will provide when surely is there a need. Now is that need." This is followed by thinking of the wish being fulfilled and the petitioner having the money. Again you recite a brief acknowledgement: "The money now is his ... Praise be the Gods for their goodness. Ever is it thus. Now all is well."
You then sit quietly for five minutes, after which time you may extinguish the flames. Repeat the ritual the following day, but move the red and green candles closer to the gold candle and the petitioner's candle. Repeat on following days until the candles are touching.
And that's all it takes. Other rituals include ones to conquer fear, to heal an unhappy marriage, to win love, to change your luck, to stop slander, and many more.
If you are looking for direct, powerful, and practical magic, this is the book for you!

Everyone knows that brooms and witches go together. Most popular images of witches show them with pointed hats, black cats, and a broom. And while not every witch has a cat (or a funny-looking hat, for that matter), most of us own a broom. But how many of us actually use them for our magical work? When I started writing The Witch's Broom, I'll... read this article
