Shamanism is arguably the oldest spiritual system in the world. Shamanic techniques, from meditation to fasting, have been incorporated into virtually all religious and spiritual paths. In fact, various techniques of shamanism could be incorporated into any religious system. Today, when you think of shamanism, you may think of a tribal society trying to survive in a modern world. In fact, virtually all cultures go back to shamanic beginnings. Many people today have developed modern forms of shamanic practices.

Most Wiccan or Witchcraft traditions of the West try to associate themselves with the ancient Celts. While the Druids were the Celtic priests, it seems that there were other ancient Celts who used shamanic powers for such things as healing and prophecy.

Now, D. J. Conway introduces a system that combines ancient Celtic shamanism and modern shamanic practices in By Oak, Ash, & Thorn. This is one of the most remarkable books ever published on how to make a system created by the ancient Celts practical for today.

In the first part of this book you will learn about shamanism, both ancient and modern, with a focus on the unique path of Celtic shamanism. Then you will learn just what it takes to become a shaman. Included is a test to determine your weak and strong points as a shaman. Finally, you will begin the actual work, including meditations, journaling, methods of dealing with problems from this life and previous ones, how to use a pendulum, initiation, and much more.

The second part of this book begins with an exploration of the three Celtic otherworlds: Underworld, Upperworld, and Middleworld. Meditations allowing you to visit these worlds are included. Next, you will learn about important Celtic shamanic tools as described in Celtic mythology. These include such things as a drum, a sacred cauldron, a silver branch and others. All of them can be of value in your work.

One of the mysterious Celtic traditions is the maze known as a labyrinth. The section of the book dealing with this idea gives information on how to use a real or visualized maze in meditation and trance. Full instructions are given.

When you start practicing and visiting the otherworlds, you will find yourself in contact with various beings and allies. The book describes a wide variety of such entities you are likely to encounter on your journeys.

The final part of this section deals specifically with you. First, it examines your shadow self. A full description of the shadow self is given, along with what to do when you meet it and why this encounter is so important to your development. You will also learn one of the typical techniques of shamanism involving people with shattered souls. Here, you will learn how to retrieve the soul parts and make a person whole again.

The last section of the book is about divination and magic. You will learn Celtic methods such as Tree divination and the Ogam alphabet. The book reveals how to use the elements and forms of Celtic magic while visiting the Otherworlds. You will also learn cord magic, various methods of healing, the reality of shape-shifting, invisibility, and more.

This book can open new spiritual vistas in your life. It's up to you to get a copy and start.

The idea of using the stars for magic and ritual is not new. Medieval texts included details about stars and constellations, and how to determine the optimal time to draw their influence into talismans for spells, healing, and other purposes. A small remnant of this remains today in the use of birthstone jewelry. The stars have always had a... read this article
