Whether you are attracted to the mystical beauty of the legends of King Arthur or the spiritual and divinatory system of the Tarot, you're going to love Legend: The Arthurian Tarot by Anna-Marie Ferguson. This deck draws on the wisdom and power of the greatest legend of all time to bring a new level of depth and magic to your Tarot readings.

You'll notice the uniqueness of this deck as soon as you open the box. Instead of the usual end-opening, the elegant box opens from the front, allowing it to better protect your deck from the elements. The deck itself is securely wrapped, requiring you to pull a golden band to actually get to the cards.

Take a moment to examine the back of the cards. They look like the deep purple of the night sky, dotted with bright stars. A golden labyrinth leading from the physical world to the spiritual universe dominates the center of the card. This unique design is completely reversable, so you cannot discern whether a card is upright or reversed by simply looking at the back of the card.

Finally, turn the cards over and look at them in awe. The watercolor paintings appear to be etched on marble with the central image surrounded by a bejeweled Celtic knot design. The magnificent designs on the cards will draw you into their beauty. Each card has been meticulously designed, based on a scene or character from one of the Arthurian myths. The traditional Tarot name for each card is shown at the top of each card, while the name of each scene or character from the Arthurian legend is at the bottom of the card.

The 78-card deck is composed of the traditional 22-card Major Arcana and 56-card Minor Arcana. The Major Arcana is comprised of 22 cards illustrating the soul's journey towards enlightenment. Here Ms. Ferguson deftly weaves together the diverse Christian and Pagan elements of the Arthurian legends. Justice is the Lady of the Lake, and Lancelot in Exile (after his affair with Guinevere is discovered) is the Hermit, while Death portrays the Welsh god Gwyn ab Nudd and his Wild Hunt. Reflecting the legend's Pagan roots, the Devil has been changed to the Horned One, represented by the Celtic god Cernunnos, and the Sun is the Welsh sun god Llew.

The Minor Arcana divided into four suits corresponding to the four elements: Spears, Swords, Cups, and Shields. The Nine of Swords is represented by the Wind Harps of War, reflecting the ancient Celtic tradition of leaving giant harps on the seaside cliffs to frighten off invading enemies. The Seven of Swords depicts the tale of the Sword in the Stone. The Ten of Cups illustrates Corbenic, the mystical castle where the Holy Grail was kept, and the King of Shields is the ruthless and reckless Uther Pendragon, Arthur's father.

Every time you consult the Legend deck it awakens your deepest intuition and inspires rich, multi-layered readings. The 72-page booklet by Ms. Ferguson lets you immediately begin working with this beautiful deck. It begins with an introduction to the myth of Arthur and an introduction to the Tarot. Then the booklet includes a complete description of each card and its meaning (both upright and reversed). In this way you will come to learn not only how to interpret each card, but also the various parts of the Arthurian legend. Anna-Marie Ferguson painstakingly researched the Arthurian legends for this beautiful deck. She did not rely on any single source, and as a result has created a vibrant deck that reflects the ever-changing nature of Europe's most enduring legend.

The booklet also includes instructions for two Tarot spreads so you can practice and learn how to use the cards for divination. The subtle symbolism in this deck makes the Tarot more accessible than ever before, and adds new layers of meaning to a powerful divination tool. Add this beautiful deck to your collection today!

Anyone who wishes to learn tarot can find a plethora of books on the subject. Anyone wishing to study the Rider Waite Tarot in depth can also find many, many books to choose from. However, for students of the Thoth Tarot, there are fewer options and the options available don’t always seem to have the goal of enlightening the reader. The... read this article
