POSTED UNDER Home, Winter

A Tarot Layout for the Journey

Color of the day:  Gold
Incense of the day:  Hyacinth

The dark depths of winter are a great time to work with divination, and early January is also a wonderful time to make plans for the new year. Joseph Campbell's "hero's journey" model frames all personal undertakings as a type of "quest" and divides each one into three phases: departure (during which one receives a call to destiny, meets a mentor, and crosses a threshold into adventure), initiation (during which one is tested and achieves the goal), and return (during which the questor returns home, filled with new knowledge and capabilities).
What are your plans and goals for 2013? Forecast one of your upcoming ventures with a tarot reading a la Campbell's quest. Draw one card to represent you - it's your adventure, after all. Below it, draw and lay three cards for departure, initiation, and return. Study and read the result: you're on your way!
