LLEWELLYN'S SPELL-A-DAY

The Slow Glass Spell

When someone yells at you, or asks you a question you're not prepared for, you can become easily flustered. This is the perfect time to shut up and try the Slow Glass Spell. The idea comes from a science fiction novel about a kind of glass which allows light to pass through only very slowly. An image entering one side wouldn't be seen on the other until many minutes, or even years, have passed. Imagine, therefore, a thick plate of slow glass between you and the other party. Time moves normally on the opposite side, but the glass makes time move slowly on your side. The other person's words and actions come through at a snail's pace, so impatience, thoughtlessness, harshness, and so on hardly pass through at all. You have all the time in the world to make a response.
