LLEWELLYN'S SPELL-A-DAY

Banish Sleep Inertia

Color of the day:  White
Incense of the day:  Vanilla

Do you have trouble waking up in the morning? Do you feel as if you're still asleep for a while after getting out of bed? That feeling has a name: sleep inertia. Physically, it has to do with your body struggling to adjust its metabolic phase, especially if you're awakened from a deep sleep. Metaphysically, it's about your spirit settling back into your body after its nightly journeying to other planes.
To fight sleep inertia, first turn on bright lights. Hold a piece of onyx in your receptive (usually left) hand. Concentrate on grounding yourself fully in your body. Wiggle your toes and fingers a little. Then hold a piece of carnelian in your projective (usually right) hand. Focus on increasing your energy level. Stand up and move around. You may want to turn on lively music at this stage. Keep the stones by your bedside for use each morning.
