A Magickal Shield

Color of the day:  Brown
Incense of the day:  Marjoram

For millennia, people have identified themselves and traced their lineages through heraldic shields, coats of arms, flags, and other symbolic creations.

Designing your own magickal shield strengthens your magickal identity and can be used for magickal workings as well. Start by making some notes: Who are you in terms of earth? Air? Fire? Water? What kinds of magick do you work with? What do you value? What symbols and numbers are significant to you? What colors?

Use a large piece of cardboard, fabric, or even plywood-with one quadrant each for earth, air, fire, and water and a central area for spirit. With paint, pens, wood burner, or your media of choice, design each section according to the notes you made. Keep revising and tweaking until your shield is finished. Bless it with salt, smudge, and pure water. Display it proudly in your sanctum, and consider using it as an altarpiece as well.
