Isis and Horus Full Moon of Protection

There may be times when a mother feels the need for protection for herself and her baby. Do this little ritual in a place where you feel you are the safest. Use a white candle for Isis and a red candle for Horus. Use water mixed with some salt to represent earth, and water with a black stone sitting in the mix as a center for protection. Sprinkle the water/salt mix around your circle. Create your circle, calling Isis as the Goddess and Horus as the God. When you are all prepared, hold your baby and the stone taken out of the salt/water mix and say this little prayer-it is easy to learn and can be repeated until you feel the secure touch of the Goddess: | "Lady Isis, hear my plea. | Protect my baby and protect me. | As Horus sits safely on your knee, | Keep us safe and trouble free." | When you are done, have some milk and a cookie. Thank Isis and Horus and ask that they stay to keep you feeling safe till the troubles pass. | If you find you are still troubled, make sure you have taken care of the mundane reasons for your insecurity first...and then repeat this prayer/ritual as needed.

The Comfort of Home

Sometimes we just need a break to restore us. This tea is a great way to relax with some warming herbs to brighten your day. You can make this with water, but it's even better with apple cider or apple juice. | For each cup of liquid, tie up the following in a tea strainer or bit of cheesecloth: | 1 teaspoon cinnamon (or one stick) | 1 teaspoon nutmeg (fresh ground is best) | 1 teaspoon allspice | 1 teaspoon cardamom (or 5-8 cardamom pods) | Heat the water (or juice/cider) to near boiling. Float the spices (in a tea strainer or bit of cheesecloth) in the water for 5 to 10 minutes. You can add 1 tablespoon lemon juice and honey to taste. | Drink, taking in the blessings and restorative warmth. These herbs all have stong associations with health, properity, and well-being.

Achievement Spell

Today is about completion. Taking pride in your achievements has never been so important. By recognizing the things you have accomplished, you welcome more success. Without that understanding and recognition, it is difficult to move forward. If you take the time to acknowledge what you have done, the universe will give you more of what makes you happy. | On a plain piece of paper, list all the things you are proud of. If this is the first time, you may need a couple pieces because you will be going far back into your childhood. Try to uncover as many accomplishments as you can. Get into the happy feeling of success. No accomplishment is too small. When finished, fold the pages and place inside your pillowcase, closest to the mattress. Sleep on it. More accomplishments will come to you. When they do, write those down, too, and continue the practice daily.

Totemic Diversity

Sometimes we foget that every animal or plant has a totem, and instead work primarily with the totems of charismatic beings like Wolf, Bear, and Eagle, or Redwood, Oak, and Rowan. | So today, try reaching out to a totem you wouldn't ordinarily connect with. For example, if you've only ever worked with animal totems, try exploring plant totems instead. Or if you usually work with mammals or trees, try going for the smaller, hidden totems in the underbrush-or who are the underbrush! | If you've never contacted a totem before, today is a good time to try. | One easy way to do this is to visualize going through a tunnel in the ground, and then coming out in a natural place where you may find the animal or plant totem. Explore the place until you find the totem, and then respectfully start a conversation.

Back to Normal Spell

If you've gone through a stressful period and you're anxious for things to get back to normal, perform this spell. This ritual is based on an old Greek saying my mother used to say: "I was, I am, and I will be!" What this means is that you're affirming your strength and you'll stay on a steady path. | For this spell you'll need two identical violet or purple candles. | Violet is a color associated with balance and is used to help realign energies. The candles may be scented, if you wish. Place the candles before a mirror and light them. Look at yourself intently in the mirror. Think of your situation and how you'll return things to normal. Begin the chant: | "I was, I am, and I will be!" | Repeat the words as often as you wish. The transformation has begun.

The Witching Wand

Willow has a wild array of medicinal and magical powers. The tree of the Moon Goddess, willow has been favored by Witches for centuries, used to make magical wands and for witching or dowsing for water. Willow protects against evil and can avert danger. It aids healing, protection, and fertility spells and can enhance intuition and sacred knowledge. If asked nicely, willow will also grant wishes. While willow is growing rapidly, filled with excited water energy, harvest some for your own magical use. Sit under a willow tree and cast a protective circle. Meditate, connecting with willow energy, Moon Goddess intuition, and water-finding abilities. Ask for permission to remove an 18 to 36 inch tapering branch filled with witching magic. Holding the willow mindfully in both hands, chant: | "A witching wand for this Witch, | Finding water I am witch, | A magic wand for working good, | I am blessed by willow wood."

Planting a Garden of Friends

By mid-May, our gardens are growing nicely. We weed and water them and talk to the flowers and veggies we've planted. We begin gathering bouquets and good food. | We need to take the same care with our relationships. Add fertilizer and water, so to speak, with regular phone calls and genuine conversations. Be alert for little buggy things (a misspoken word, a forgotten event) that can wilt a friendship. | Weed toxic people out of your personal garden and prune away power and jealousy issues. | Just as you spend time in the sun in your garden, create a sunny atmosphere when you spend time with your friends. Be generous. | Share the bounty of your garden with both real and metaphorical flowers and veggies-compliments and little gifts, nourishing words and encouragement in time of need. Just as your real garden will flourish when you're a good gardener, so will your relationships.

A Home for Inspiration

Today is International Museum Day. The world museum originally meant "the seat of the Muses," a home for inspiration. | Today, why not create an altar or space in your home that inspires you? | Create a physical altar by cutting out (or printing) images that inspire you and arranging them in a pleasing way. You could attach them to a piece of poster board, a bulletin board, or your wall. Include words, symbols, and colors that connect the images or remind you of your major creative goals, such as the image of a pencil or the words "I love writing." | You can also create a digital version by collecting online images and using them in a screensaver program or as a rotating desktop image. This can be a great way to keep some inspiration in your life during the workday - just pick images that fit your workplace culture.

Green Man Invocation

The abundant green growth of spring is all around. Take time today to walk in the woods and give praise to Pan, Greek god of the woodlands, fertility, wild animals, music, nature spirits, and dance. If you live in a city, find a park where you can safely walk. If you live in the country, go to a favorite spot. Slow down enough to notice the abundant springing of life and, marveling in it, commune with the Green Man of spring: | "In the riot of spring's wild surge, | We summon Pan with these words. | Horned god, dance throughout the trees, | Summon the beasts, and command the bees. | Sprouts and shoots, plants and vines, | Green magic energy now entwines. | Play your pipes and celebrate, | Great Pan, we invoke you on this date." | Later, as you walk toward your home, hum or sing and spread the spirit of Pan throughout the land.

Keep Your Luck Magick Wreath

Take a simple grapevine wreath and weave a long piece of red ribbon or yarn to form a fine-pointed star in the middle. Then tuck sprigs of herbs into the wreath for good luck. Use chamomile, thyme, sage, clover flowers, rosemary, mint, yarrow, or any of your favorite good luck herbs. You can hot-glue star anise all around the wreath, if you wish. Feel free to dangle any of your favorite good luck charms, such as a small horseshoe, crescent moon, dragon, Chinese coins, and so on. | Once the wreath is complete, go outside and hang it on your front door. With the door closed, enchant it with the following charm: | "Magical wreath, circle round, send bad luck ino the ground. | Hold all good luck behind this door, peace, love and prosperity evermore." | The wreath will deflect bad luck and hold the good luck in your home.
