Rest and Introspection Spell

Color of the day:  White
Incense of the day:  Peony

The New Moon offers a time of rest and introspection. The old cycle is complete; the new cycle is beginning anew. During the dark of the Moon, all the stars shine most brightly-just as our own virtues become most evident in times of challenge. For this ritual, you need one black candle, one silver candle, a small black bowl, a pinch of glitter, and some very pure water (preferably rain water, but distilled will do). To start, place the candles on either side of the bowl and light them. Fill the bowl with water to catch the flames' reflection. Sprinkle the glitter into the bowl. As you watch the sparkling water swirling in the bowl, say:

The Moon, the stars,
The sable night,
Together balance dark and light.

A time of rest,
A time of peace,
A time to dream and to release.

Now as the cycles
Spool and spin,
Show me the truth that lies within.

Let the power of the hidden Moon draw you into itself as you gaze into the bowl. Sit for some time and think about what you accomplished over the last month and what you hope to do in the next. Which projects have you completed and which do you need to start? What satisfies you, and what worries you? See what answers the Moon offers. When you finish, blow out the candles. Pour the water onto the ground, preferably in your garden or in a potted plant, where it will nourish your inspiration through the month to come.
