Once you have identified your patron deity, you may want to commit to working with them in a more meaningful way. Remember, committing to a patron deity is not to be taken lightly. A dedication period is recommended before jumping to a loyalty oath. A dedication period of a year and a day is an effective way to decide if you and the deity work well together and if your goals align. Create a tangible representation of your deity by braiding several cords together. Choose two or three colors that correspond to your patron. If you have charms that represent the deity, you can incorporate those into your braid as well, but they are not necessary. As you plait the cords together, chant:

I weave my path in service to yours for a year and a day.

After the year has passed, you can reevaluate to see if this is a permanent commitment or if you were just meant to learn a lesson and move on.
