Tonight is Samhain, famously celebrated in mainstream culture as Halloween. If pumpkin is the ubiquitous vegetable associated with this festival, then the fruit of Samhain is the magical apple. After all, can you imagine celebrating Samhain without apple bopping or candied apples? It is believed that this festival of the dead was once called the Festival of Apples, making it a perfect night for apple magic. In the story of King Arthur, upon death he was taken to Avalon, the Isle of the Apples. To help lost and wandering souls complete their journey to their own "Avalon," here is a spell: Anoint a black and orange candle with apple juice. On your altar, light the candles, saying:
On this night, the sacred festival of the dead, may your journey complete safely once these words have been said.
