Saint Catherine’s Love Magic

Color of the day:  Topaz
Incense of the day:  Lilac

The feast of Saint Catherine is rich with old custom, a day when unmarried women (called Catterns) are honored. The friends of the unmarried Catterns often make for them outrageous hats, traditionally of yellow and green color, which they are supposed to wear for the entire day. For those unhappy with their single status, Saint Catherine has a longer track record than Internet dating for finding mates. You can make a Cattern cake today by adding 4 tablespoons of butter, 2 tablespoons of caraway seeds, and 2 tablespoons of sugar to a batch of bread dough. Knead the special dough and separate into two loaves. Cover the loaves and let them rise until they reach the top of their tins. Bake for 20–25 minutes in a 400-degree oven. Light a yellow and a green candle and speak the following English prayer:

A husband, Saint Catherine,
A handsome one, Saint Catherine,
A rich one, Saint Catherine,
A nice one, Saint Catherine,
And soon, Saint Catherine.

When you've completed your spell, jump a burning candle and make a wish. It will come true on Saint Catherine's Day.

Kit be nimble, Kit be quick
Kit jump o'er the candlestick.
