Prosperity and Good Fortune

Color of the day:  Green
Incense of the day:  Mulberry

Thursday is associated with the planet Jupiter, prosperity, and good fortune. We also have a waxing Moon to help pull positive things toward us when we work magic. So, let's conjure up a good-luck spell today. You will need one of these prosperity-inducing herbs-clover, honeysuckle, or mint. (You may use all three herbs if you wish.) If you can find a four-leafed clover, all the better. Light a green votive candle and surround the outside of the candle cup with your chosen herb. Then repeat the charm:
Good luck these fresh herbs will bring to me,
May they increase my
prosperity,
Good luck and good fortune
shall rule my days,
I'll be blessed in many
positive ways.
Allow the spell candle to burn in a safe place until it goes out on its own.

Holiday lore: Many Greeks consider this their New Year's Day. This day marks the beginning of the sowing season, a time of promise and hope. On this day, people fashion wreaths of pomegranates, quinces, grapes, and garlic bulbs-all traditional symbols of abundance. Just before dawn on September 1, children submerge the wreaths in the ocean waters for luck. They carry seawater and pebbles home with them in small jars to serve as protection in the coming year. Tradition calls for them to gather exactly forty pebbles and water from exactly forty waves.
