If you have to travel at night, especially during "The Gloom" time from Samhain to Imbolg, it is a wise idea to recite a verbal charm of protection around yourself to keep any unpleasant beings at bay.
This charm invokes the power of the night itself to keep you safe, as if in a magical cocoon. Visualize yourself wearing a black hooded cloak of protection as you cast the spell:

"Of all dangers, I am free,
In shroud of shadows, secure from
harm.
Wrapped in darkness, safe and warm,
Cloak of night, protect me."
