On this day in 1898, Congress passed legislation allowing private printers to print postcards for mailing in the U.S. It is said that this fueled the production and subsequent popularity of the picture postcard. In this day and age, with our ability to send an image instantaneous through e-mail, perhaps we should stop and pay homage to the nostalgic postcard. All of us still enjoy receiving tangible and fun mail from loved ones. Find a postcard that has an image of something you or someone dear to you holds sacred. I like to perform the following while sitting at my altar and burning a candle. Pen a short blessing to your loved one on the back of the card, thanking the person for their friendship or honoring a recent accomplishment of theirs. Draw one or more small sacred symbols on the back as well, to further magically charge your blessing. Now drop it in the mail!
