LLEWELLYN'S SPELL-A-DAY

Find Your Goddess

Color of the day:  Purple
Incense of the day:  Nutmeg

Find a dense encyclopedia-style reference book on goddesses, such as Patricia Monaghan's The Encyclopedia of Goddesses and Heroines.

Light seven white candles on your altar. Remove any goddess symbols. Have the book in your lap. Ground and center. Say:

"Today I find my goddess. Come to me, Lady, that I may know you."

Close your eyes. Open the book at random, allowing a spot within it to call to you. You may rifle through the pages, but your eyes should remain closed. When ready, place your finger on the spot that calls to you and open your eyes.

You've selected a goddess. Say thank you and extinguish the candles. Read up on the goddess you've found. What are her colors? Foods? Incenses? Rituals? Surround yourself with her sacred things and pray to her daily for a full month. Meditate on the meaning of this goddess in your life.

If, at the end of a month, you don't feel that you and she are meant to continue this relationship, you may repeat the spell.
