Meditation on Self-Love

Today is Valentine’s Day. In addition to the romantic love that is so commonly celebrated and emphasized today, it is also important to love yourself. We need not be in a state of perfection to have love for ourselves. Today let’s show our love for ourselves and practice a bit of meditation on the topic. All you need for this simple meditation is a piece of rose quartz of any size, a pen and paper, and ten minutes of quiet time to yourself.

Have a seat where you’ll be undisturbed and make yourself comfortable. Write on the piece a paper a list of three to five personal affirmations of qualities you like about yourself, such as “I am a generous person,” “I am a dedicated musician,” or “I am a loving sibling.” Hold the rose quartz in the palms of your hands and, with eyes open, enter a light meditative state. Repeat the affirmations for five or six minutes, slowly and calmly. Then proclaim, “So mote it be.”
