POSTED UNDER Earth, Garden, Water

An Earth Day Ritual

Color of the day:  Blue
Incense of the day:  Patchouli

This ritual serves to remind us how the seed and the earth are connected, and how it has been so for eons. You’ll need a pot, some potting soil, and some easy-to-grow seeds that are tolerant of cool weather, such as dill or lettuce. If you have a garden, you may sow your seeds directly into it. Begin by filling the pot with potting soil or prepare a small plot of the garden for outdoor planting. Plant your seeds according to package directions.

Water the seeds and say:
The seed is the child,
The earth is its mother.
I return the seeds to the
mother’s womb,
The seed and the earth are
bound together forever.

As you observe Earth Day, remember this endless cycle of life. Seeds sprout, plants grow, and more seeds are produced and return to the earth again. As you tend your seeds, indoors or outside, be mindful of this cycle.
