Important Initiations

There are certain initiations we all go through, whether they are formal or not. Birth is an initiation into this life. Death is an initiation into the next. Puberty is an initiation into adulthood, and many cultures have puberty rites. Going through serious ailments or experiencing the death of a loved one is an initiations into understanding the true nature of a limited life span.

One of the most important initiations is the choosing of a life partner, symbolized by the ritual of marriage.

This is going to be a brief post because, by the time you read this, I will have gone through the first step of this life-changing initiation. We’re doing it today at the courthouse with a few family members as it is the anniversary of our first real meeting. In less than a week we will be having a Indian and post-Halloween ritual with our friends.
