Readers, please enjoy this guest blog post by Sharlyn Hidalgo, author of The Healing Power of Trees.

November marks the New Year in the Celtic Tree Calendar; its tree is the Beith Birch. The Birch teaches us to establish new beginnings, so this is the month to clear it all away and push the restart button. Look at what you have accomplished and pat yourself on the back. Take the time to evaluate the year and make new plans based on who you are in this moment.  Look at what never got done; perhaps this is the time to let go of that plan (there is no need to feel guilty). This is a great time to clean your closets and let go of things and clothes that no longer reflect who you are in this moment.  This helps to make space for the new.

The Birch tree is a tall, slender tree that reaches for the sky and looks to the light.  Its totem, the eagle, asks you to look at the larger picture and view your life from a larger and higher perspective. Who and what do you admire? Really reach for your aspirations. Set some new goals. Breathe in the energy of the Birch to help you see the forest for the trees. She will help you with clarity and inspiration.  Give gratitude for what you have accomplished and sweep the rest into a huge compost pile, knowing that you can use the compost energy to fertilize what you plan to grow for the year.

Choose a few very important goals and plan your garden.  Use the portal of Birch power to clear and clean the debris, tie up loose ends, forgive yourself and others for last year’s stuff, and give gratitude for what is going well in your life. Put some effort into planning your new year’s desire and dreams. Gather the seeds that you will plant. Name them. Love them. And know that this is a good use of the energy of the Birch month!
