This morning as I was getting ready, I was listening to the Eau Claire, Wisconsin, news station and heard that what people were calling a meteorite (although they were not confirming that it was such a thing) was spotted rocketing through the sky in at least five states and that a sonic boom was also heard. The LaCrosse (Wisconsin) Tribune states that many from the area called in and witnessed a what they called a meteor explode and heard a sonic boom. The photo included in the article is quite a sight to see.
Was it a meteorite? Was it a UFO exploding? The article states that there is a meteor shower going on at the moment, so it could be an explanation, but I will be very curious to see what comes of all of this.

Amy- About a month ago, my husband and I were driving near Red Wing at about 9pm when we saw the entire sky light up. It was as if a giant bolt of lightning had hit somewhere close, but there was not a cloud in the sky (plus, lightning generally only lights up a portion of the night sky, not the WHOLE sky). We heard on the news that it could be seen as far away as Hudson, WI. The idea of a meteorite was bandied about, but after that initial 10 second news item, we never heard another peep about it. Perhaps it was the same phenomenon?

Anna, maybe what you and your husband saw was the same phenomenon. I’m glad that this latest is getting more press and isn’t just a 10 second news bit. Thanks for sharing!
