There’s an old saying that goes, “If all you have is a hammer, everything looks like a nail.” I’ve tried using hammers on screws, and it just doesn’t work. Having the right tool is important in carpentry. It’s also important in magick.

Yesterday I received an email from a person who wrote,

I am reading Modern Magick. I am on lesson three and do the the rituals LBRP, Middle Pillar, Circulation of [the Body of] Light, Tarot contemplation, four adorations and dream diary on a daily basis. One thing I have noticed is that I am more assertive than I have ever have been. Also, I am attracting all kinds of attention that I am not used to. Good and bad. I used to be well……invisible. Now I’m like a Tesla Coil lighting up the night sky. I kid you not.
Is this normal? How can I ground some of this energy so people won’t run when they see me coming? I feel sorry for my husband. He has no idea I am reading this book and has noticed a BIG difference but can’t figure out why.

When using Modern Magick, I suggest that people go through it quickly once, then take their time and work theirway through it. If you do, you will discover that I wrote this about the LBRP and the Rose Cross Ritual in lesson five: “The LBRP ritual will protect you, but it also lights up the entire Astral Plane with its lines and pentagrams. It is very powerful. It can also have the effect of attracting the attention of sometimes unwanted astral entities (little nasties) as we have already discussed. The Rose Cross Ritual, on the other hand, works like a curtain by containing your aura.”

So I wrote to the woman who emailed me, “It is not uncommon for this to occur because the LBRP lights up the aura and the MP and CoBL tend to empower it. It sounds like you are being very successful.

“I would suggest moving on and studying the Rose Cross Ritual. It is very simple and elegant. It has the ability to draw the energy into your center, effectively making you invisible.”
Choosing the most appropriate ritual to achieve your goal is always a good idea. Personally I agree with one of the basic ideas behind Chaos Magick: maximum result for minimum effort. Put another way, do what works. And use a hammer to drive nails and a screwdriver on screws.
