In the first part of this series I discussed why the common, non-magickal concept of a love spell was a bad idea, but that real love spells were a practical option for magickal folks. In the second part of this series I described how it’s a myth that “opposites attract” but an occult truism that “like attracts like.” I also described how to attract the type of person you want: you need to be the type of person he or she wants. This involves doing an honest assessment of yourself and changing those things you don’t like about yourself. Then make a list of the characteristics you want in your new love.

So let’s look at that list. The key is to be as specific as possible. Saying you want the person to be handsome or beautiful isn’t specific. For example, some people think short hair is attractive while others think long hair is attractive. Which do you prefer? Do you want the person to be of your ethnic background? Can this person be a smoker? A drinker? A drug user?

What hobbies should this person have? What level of education? Does this person need to have an I-spend-all-my-spare-time-in-the-gym body, or is something less that that okay? What does this ideal person like to eat? What type of clothes do they wear? What type of music do they like? What religion are they?

What color is their hair? What color are their eyes? Is their voice deep or high pitched? Where do they live? Do they have a car? Is it a sports car that lets you feel every rut and bump in the road, but is very fast, or is it a larger, slower car that has a smooth ride?

Is the person older than you? Younger? By how much? Or is this person the same age? Does this person like to travel around the world? Is the person a stay-at-home TV watcher, book reader, or gamer, or does this person like to go out to clubs and parties? Is the person very formal or laid back?

And of course, if you intend on taking this relationship to a deeper level, are you looking for someone who is new to sex or is practiced at it? Should your partner be wild or mild in bed?

Should this person be a magick practitioner? What kind(s) of magick?

What Type of Magick

Whenever you have a list of qualities such as this, the obvious style of magick to use involves making a talisman. A talisman is any object, sacred or profane, with or without appropriate writing, that is charged or consecrated to achieve a specific end. So you have a list, how do you make it into a talisman?

First, you need to change each of the specific qualities into a symbol or single word or acronym. One way to do this would be this:

Let’s say one of the qualities you’re looking for is that your partner should regularly exercise three times a week. Write this down on a paper:

Regularly Exercises Three Times a Week

The next thing to do is remove duplicate letters:

Regula y  x  cis   Th      m     W  k

And push them together:

RegulayxcisThmWk

Now, since Hebrew doesn’t use vowels in writing, and since Hebrew is the language of the Kabalah, remove all the vowels and push everything together:

RglxcsThmWk

Now, you can use this strange-looking word on your talisman, or you can rearrange the letters so it forms a symbol. So how is this magickal?

How Magick Works

If you put five magicians in a room you’ll probably get ten ideas—at a minimum!—as to how magick works. What follows is just one idea. Is it the “right” one? You’ll have to determine that for yourself.

To explain this I start off with a grotesque description. Imagine someone cut off your arm. Would you still be you? Yes, of course. How about if I cut off both your arms and legs. Yes, you’d still be you. What about if I was able to keep your brain alive while I cut off your body? What if I cut off part of your brain so you could still live?

Yes, it’s kind of gross, but the point is that you are more than your physical body and brain. What, then, makes you, you? Something else. But where is that something else? It’s obviously not physical. Therefore, where that something else exists must also be located in a non-physical place. Let’s call this the “astral plane.”

You’ve probably heard of having an astral body. The thing is, you (and everything and everyone else) don’t have an astral body because you have a physical body. Rather, you develop a physical body because you have an astral body. Things that exist on the astral plane eventually must manifest on the physical plane. Therefore, if you create something on the astral plane, it must eventually manifest on the physical plane. Somehow, the essence of what is you is created on the astral plane (how that happens is another discussion) and must become physical. For the discussion here, the question we must ask is, “How can we create something on the astral plane?” If we can accomplish that, we can make our desires and goals come to pass.

One way to access the astral plane is through visualization. I’ve already written about visualization at the end of this previous post, and I would encourage you to read it. However, for our purposes here, it may be best to say that the conscious mind basically works with the physical world and the subconscious mind basically works with the astral world.

Therefore, we want to use the unconscious mind by embedding it with, in this case, the sigil “RglxcsThmWk.” But wait, what does that even mean? Do you remember? I’ve presented some theory and philosophy to confuse and lead your conscious mind away from meaning. But your unconscious mind remembers! So by merely looking at it—even if you don’t consciously remember what it means—you will be programming your unconscious. That places it into the astral plane, inevitably resulting in its manifestation on the physical plane.

Do this for your entire list of characteristics. Write or draw or paste them onto a piece of paper. This is your talisman-to-be. I’ll share what to do with it in the next post.
