Many tarot readers consider their decks as important tools for their magical or spiritual work. As such, they treat them with respect and reverence. Often, they cleanse or charge their decks, dedicating them to specific purposes. This article but Joy Vernon is one of the best I’ve read on the subject.

Do you charge, dedicate, or cleanse your decks, and if so, how?

I cleanse decks, new or used, by placing the deck, the box it came with, LWB, book, and bag (if any) on my altar for a few days to have sunlight & moonlight fall on it. For charging, I shuffle, mix up the cards in a ‘fingerpaint’ style before I first use them, infusing them with my own positive energy, concentrating on a greater knowledge of what the Universe has to offer and how to best utilize those opportunities.
