Magick

Readers familiar with the writings of Aleister Crowley will recognize the somewhat unusual spelling of the word "MAGICK." Crowley did this to distinguish Occult "Magick" from the "magic" of legerdemain, and also to separate the new Occult Magick from that of the old, which was often sadly loaded with useless junk. It may also be seen that the Qabalistic value of "Magick" comes to 83, and 8 + 3 = 11. From LIBER LEGIS—"My number is 11 as all their numbers who are of us." The number 11 stands for the Great Work accomplished—ABRACADABRA.

“In all magical essays things must be especially made. He who makes them must bring to bear all the powers of a trained mind concentrated on his work, so that no other mind or influence bears upon it in any way that can lead the mind astray. The whole force of his being must be centered on that work. . . .

“So, when the Great Work is performed, everything in every way leads the Magician’s mind forward, and concentrates it into a stream which flows onward directed by his will, until its force tears aside the Astral veil, releasing the Forces which lie beyond.” pg 122, High Magic’s Aid, by “Scire” (Gerald Gardner), Michael Houghton, London, 1949.
