Dice have a very long history as oracles; they were prominent in ancient Greece and Rome, and popular again in medieval Europe. When you try a dice oracle for the first time, you will notice a big difference from other forms of divination (such as the tarot). It's always a good idea to try new divination systems regularly and see which parts of them we want to bring into our own practice. Quite often this is just the latest deck in a style that we already know, but it's also important to look at entirely different physical tools. One of the most interesting for modern readers is dice. Dice oracles fall into two main styles, which I call "book" and "hand." "Book" systems involve ...

It's as clear in my mind as if it happened yesterday. I was ten years old, and had been befriended by a middle-aged lady who lived a few houses away. She was a good cook, and regularly invited me in to try her baking. I usually sat in the kitchen with her, but on this day the phone went, and she put me in their library, as it was an important call. I had never been in a home that had a library, and as I was a keen reader, it was exciting to sit in a room with books up to the ceiling on all four walls. In some ways, the Witch's Runes were a groundbreaking introduction to the concept of abstract symbolism itself for me. Since the Witch's Runes are not an ancient script, they have no special pronunciation or sound; the titles of the runes are in English. There's a lot less to learn here, but they more often than not be used interchangeably with the Elder Futhark in divination. If you ...

When Lo Scarabeo asked me to create a Pagan-based casting kit, I was excited for a number of reasons. I love crystals. I love challenges. I loved the idea of creating a system that is complete in itself but also open to expansion and personalization. Although I wasn't sure what the kit and packaging would look like (sometimes a lot gets lost in the language barrier when I work with Lo Scarabeo), the final product exceeded my expectations. It is a very small box (about 5.5" x 4") and beautifully designed with silver metallic lettering. Inside are: a small bag with five crystals, eight cards, and a small board that unfolds to create space about 11" x 8". Franco Rivoli, artist for the ...
