Death is part of everything that lives, and that sometimes means things are sad or uncomfortable. With tomorrow being Samhain, remembering the dead seems appropriate, through All Hallows' Eve, All Saints' Day, and All Souls' Day (October 31 to November 2). This is a very simple spell for all ages and experience levels, and it should help with feelings of distress or discomfort. It is suitable for this time of year but may be used at any time a memorial is appropriate. Simply quiet yourself and write down the names of all of those who have passed and whom you want to remember. Safely light a candle (I prefer white, but black or a seasonal color would work too) and read the names out loud, pausing to recall a memory connected to each person—even if that memory is simply why you chose to remember them. This is a great solo activity, but it seems to gain power when done in a group. Members can read their own list, or a communal list can be read by one person. Extinguish the candle when done. |
