I want to take this opportunity to talk about a couple of books.

A mere 10 or 15 years ago, Enochian magick was a deep and convoluted secret. A few people dabbled in it. Most, if anything, just included a few aspects of it in their magick. For example, even the mighty Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn used Enochian magick as part of their system, but not as its own system.

Frankly, it was such a complex system that I pretty much followed along in that tradition. But slowly, things began to change. Gerald and Betty Schueler showed how to completely separate the Enochian entities from the Enochian system, allowing people to experiment with those entities in ways that were comfortable to them, Geoffrey James published his groundbreaking examination of the original Enochian magick techniques, and Benjamin Rowe published small books and articles that began where other people left off. His Enochian Temples is one of the most imaginative and creative books I’ve ever read (or worked with) when it comes to the Enochian system. For those of you who are interested in the actual system, you might look at Enochian Magic for Beginners by Donald Tyson.

If you’re looking for something more advanced, I’d suggest an amazing new book, the Grimoire of Enochian Magic. Today, most people who publish their own books simply send off their computer files and in a few weeks receive several copies of their newly-printed  books (explaining why many have lots of typos and grammatical errors!). Not this one. The author lovingly hand bound each copy in leather with a hand engraved copper Enochian square on the front. Pictures on this link show how she bound the book and how it looks. It’s a set of lessons that I can recommend. However, I have to point out that due to the time and effort this is a very expensive book, costing over $300 dollars. I have no doubt that the value of this will go way up, but this is a book for people who are really dedicated to Enochian magick.

For those of you looking for other books on the Enochian system, I want to give you a bit of advanced information. In just a few months, Llewellyn will be publishing two books by Aaron Leitch (his Secrets of the Magickal Grimoires is a must for all ceremonial magicians). They are volumes I and II of The Angelical Language. Together, these are easily the most complete examination of the language used by Dee and Kelly to speak with the Enochian spirits. To find out more about these books, visit Aaron’s website.

Are you using Enochian magick? How do you use it?
