Crystal Ball Scrying
There are always plenty of excellent evening study groups to choose from at the Readers Studio. As some of my readers know, I’ve not had much luck with scrying. But I want to scry. So I keep trying. One of my problems is that I associate scrying with seeing. You gaze into something—a crystal ball, a black mirror, a bowl of water, a flame—and see something. The thing is—I’m not particularly gifted at clairvoyance. I don’t “see” things.
For most of my life, I really thought that I had no natural “clair______” talent at all: no clairvoyance, clairaudience, or clairsentience. However, at last year’s Readers Studio, I learned from Geraldine Amaral’s class that there is another clair: claircognizance. From her description, I realized that was how I channeled divine wisdom, etc.
When I listened to Marilyn Shannon on the April 18, 2010 broadcast of Beyond Worlds (you can listen in their archives), I knew I had to take her class on crystal ball scrying.
Marilyn is a wonderfully sensitive and sweet woman with a fabulous sense of style (and collection of feathered hats) and a true gift with crystals. Her classroom was filled with beautiful crystal balls, quartz tips, and various small crystals scattered all over the tables.
She told us, in particular, to not worrying about “seeing” anything, just pay attention to whatever way the crystal chooses to communicate with you. We began by holding our crystal ball as she led us in a meditation in which we entered our crystal, exploring that world and making the acquaintance of the crystal.
After we all felt at least a little comfortable with our crystal balls, she had us pair up and read for each other. I had never read in this way for anyone before. I was thrilled to discover that my crystal call (which was a gift from my lovely magical niece) gives the same kind of clear, practical advice that I favor. Now that I’ve learned how to relate to her (she is female, or at least feminine), I look forward to practicing more. What is interesting is that I’ve meditated with her a few times since this class and it seems that I’m actually “seeing” more than I did before. Well, I’ll keep you posted on my progress.
We also had a little time to work with crystals and tarot cards, but not much. I will have to experiment on my own. But I do love the idea of combining these two tools.

LOL I could not say it more perfectly myself. I am Clair-Impaired to the Max, and Oddly while to do manage some interesting path working, at the Keyboard writing stories, that seem to have a bit of past life aspect to them; in fact a Psychic who had no reason to say so, did out of the blue, that was odd; but I’m not at all good at Guided Mediation either.

No I see black.
It runs through a Meadow.

Thank you for your kind words on the Scrying class Barbara. That class lit up my world too! I realized that I can teach scrying from a distance. The first class will be on June 22 and free to all by teleconference. Or rather telescrying!!! Details coming soon.

I have a beautiful crystal ball that my mother gave me years ago. I haven’t used it in a very long time, but I have had “visions” while gazing into it. I’ve received messages and once saw myself in a former life. Your post is a message for me to remember to use all the tools I have at my disposal. I need to take it out of its case and “see” what tales it has to tell.
I have been trolling ebay for crystal balls. I have a few I am watching. There are some gorgous ones out there! Marilyn, I cannot wait for your class!
I would love to take a scrying class. Fire can talk to me,, but crystals I feel more of a vibe than a picture. Water is relaxing for me. So glad this was posted, I’ll look forward to learning more. 🙂

I bought a selenite ball from an Indian at a flea market and it took me awhile to use it. I did – I ran a bath of warm water, place my favorite crystal in the water (rose quartz, clear quartz, angelite), lite candles, slipped into the tub, closed my eyes without expectation. When I felt ready I gazed into my ball and 3 visions were given to me. It was a beautiful experience.
I’m glad you found a way to communicate with your crystal even if it’s not through seeing. I actually had the opposite problem. I was feeling, hearing and seeing all at once with my crystal to the point that I had to put it away because it was too much for me to handle. Now, 8 years later, I am finally dusting off my crystals and am cleasing them in sea salt to begin again. I wish you the best of luck!
I began a very serious spiritual journey at the age of eleven after my father died and have never stopped. Three years ago I wanted to try scrying I had been meditating a lot at least two hours a day and very seriously learning to see auras. I bought a clear quartz ball 5 inches across, cleared it under a full moon for 3 nights and went into my closet and began to scry as I had read to do it on a few web sites. At first not a whole lot happened except for the smoke in the middle of the ball that would rise and twist above the ball. I always did a protection ritual before I started as not to invite in any low vibrating hitch hiking entities into my aura I was told this was very important as scrying can invite things in. After about two months of scrying every day I asked my guides to please please help me to see the mysteries I wanted so much to see. After that I relaxed and began to gaze first the gray mist appeared but this time it was really thick and then the ball just melted into a heap and disappeared what appeared to be sparks were flying out of where it had been then bright purple flame shapes began to leap out of where the ball had been I forced myself not to let the connection stop as I sat not moving the purple flames began to move around me and around the closet the ball reappeared and was a weird uneven shape I just kept staring asking for white light protection the purple color just kept moving around me getting faster and faster finally I shook my head as I was beginning to feel really bad a dread had washed over me like nothing I had ever felt before. I sat up and flung the closet door open and no bull the purple stuff followed me out into the dimly lit room. I walked out into my kitchen feeling really really bad. After sitting for awhile feeling really disoriented I looked up what the colors meant in scrying visions, purple was a sign of bad things down the road. One month later my Beloved Mother was diagnosed with terminal cancer I was with her till her last breath and have been away from home a year taking care of her affairs. I cleared my ball and did a load of Prayer and Reiki work I am attuned to level 2 and put the ball away. I now believe that scrying is a very serious endevor not to be taken lightly. I hope to try it again for now I scry by gazing at a blank wall or into the dark night out a door. I have been told I am not grounded enough so this I am working on.
