Spell: Shavuot Ritual

Color of the Day
Incense of the Day

Shavuot is the Jewish celebration of the harvest in Israel and of the giving of the Ten Commandments on Mount Sinai. To celebrate the energy of this day, decorate your altar with spring greenery, a candle, and the first fruit of the season. Cut the fruit in half. Raise some energy and empower the fruit with the energy of harvest, plenty, appreciation, and lawfulness. After the fruit is empowered, offer half of the fruit up to the divine with thanks for the gift of divine word. Light the candle and offer up the rest of the fruit to the divine in celebration of the harvest. After the offering, feast on milk and cheese. Leave the candle burning for the remainder of the day.

Holiday lore:
Shavuot, the Feast of the Weeks, celebrates the harvest season. The name of the holiday, which means "weeks," refers to the timing of the festival (seven weeks after Passover). Shavuot also commemorates the giving of the Ten Commandments to Moses at Mount Sinai. According to tradition the Israelites were thought to have overslept on this morning. To compensate for this negligence, Jews hold a vigil on the eve of Shavuot.
