Term: ithyphallic
| DEFINITIONS |
Ithyphallic: A statue, image, or icon, often used in religious practices, where the male genitals are greatly exaggerated. This was done in early forms of worship of the powers of generation and of the male God. It is named after the image of a phallus that was carried in ancient Rome during a procession for the holiday of the Bacchanalia. Also a term for hymns dedicated to the god Bacchus.
