Feather Messages

I was having a difficult time deciding whether I should take a series of classes. They wouldn’t boost my income, and I already had a degree, but these classes seemed important to me spiritually. In a fit of indecision before I had to register or let the opportunity go, I spoke aloud.

“I really need a big sign,” I explained. “And I need it today. If it’s a good idea to take the classes, if they’ll let me grow and do something positive with my life, please send me a sign.” I’d read that feathers are often a sign that spirit guides hear people, so I asked that my sign be a feather. However, because I was skeptical and needed a lot of proof that a pigeon hadn’t randomly flown around my home, I specifically asked for a big sign. I didn’t want to miss it, just in case the classes were a good idea.

An hour later I headed out my front door to walk to the mailbox. A gray feather stood in the grass in front of my doorstep. I picked it up, wondering if the feather was a coincidence or my sign. Suddenly, I couldn’t help laughing. My spirit guide must have a fantastic sense of humor. Along every step I took toward the mailbox was a feather-each a different size, shape, or color-about a dozen altogether. There are no trees in my yard, and no birds nested in the eaves of my house. There were no signs of an injured or molting bird; in fact, the feathers were from several different types of birds. I had my answer. I took the classes, which became the first step in taking a series of courses that has changed my perception and attitude toward life.
