A Magical Book

In 1974 I acquired a copy of The Magus by Francis Barrett. It is a classic book of magic (first published in 1801), but after I read this I had several questions. Because I was a student in the esoteric fields for many years, I decided to contact the entity of Barrett. I used several mystical techniques day after day for several weeks without any success. About this time I resigned from my job as draftsman/designer in HVAC. A few days later I had a very successful job interview at another engineering company. The vice president interviewed me, and he called the chief of the HVAC group for a personal introduction. The young man looked exactly like the picture of the author of The Magus. When he told me his name was Francis Barrett I had a tremendous emotional shock.

After a few days at the company I learned that he was Jewish, but not a student of any branch of occultism. I was in good standing with Barrett and for six months we worked on an engineering project, but when the project ended there was little work to do. Because I knew the chief of the former company had retired, I returned to the previous job where I worked for two more years.
